80wt% Pb-20wt% Sn.(Plumber's Solder)

On slow cooling the liquid metal solidifies as lead rich dendrites at approximately 265°C. The remaining liquid becomes increasingly tin rich with cooling until it solidifies at the eutectic composition at the eutectic temperature (183°C).

This alloy has a large freezing temperature range, during which is behaves as a mushy paste. When it is used to join copper pipes this allows plumbers sufficient time and control to make a good joint. Compare this with the eutectic alloy
